Cycle Gear

Bike

BMC Time Machine 02

This was my first new bike and I am really happy with it. Go See Ken!

Reccomended for intermediate to expert triathletes

Bike

Specialized Allez Elite

I chose to get into triathlons a few years ago and chose to get a used bike incase I did not like triathlons. My Specialized Alley Elite came pretty bare so I have had to buy accessories for it over the years. My bike has an aluminum frame and is not built for triathlons but I have made it work.

Reccomended for road cyclists and begginer triathletes

Bike Computer

Garmin Edge 520 Plus

I trained for an ironman without a bike computer so you dont need one, same applies for most tri gear, but it has allowed me to focus on hitting specific training goals, making me faster.

Highly Reccomended for serious athletes

Sensors

Garmin Bike Speed Sensor and Cadence Sensor

These are a must buy with your computer in order to track your speed and cadence. My watch does all of this BUT, it is hard to look at my watch face while training.

Highly Reccomended for serious athletes

Wheels

State 50W Carbon Wheels

These wheels were hand crafted in Austin, TX and are the best and nicest accessory on my bike. I managed to get them for 50% off, which made them somewhat affordable. Carbon wheels are a must! I could feel a significant difference in speed on my first bike ride and would recommend these wheels to everyone. I had no idea that the hubs on wheels were that important until I got these wheels. The titanium hubs make coasting way more efficient with less friction.

Highly recommended for all triathletes

Trainer Wheel

Vittoria Zaffiro Pro Home Trainer Fold Tire (Red, 700 x 23)

The purpose of a training wheel is to save wear and tear on normal ridding tires and your tubes.

Highly recommended for all triathletes

Group Set

Shimano Ultegra

I have not felt the difference really between the 105 and the ultegra. If I had a little more $$ I would have gone with the ultegra Di2!

Would not reccomend. Save your money and go with the 105 or splurge for the ultegra Di2.

Group Set

Shimano 105

You see a lot of entry-level and mid-range bikes specced with Shimano 105, it’s the workhorse of the Shimano groupset range, and features on bikes covering a really wide price band. The 105 group set is really a mid range performer, but honestly have no experience with any other sets. Tiagra is below the 105 and Ultergra is above it for some general comparison.

Recommended for beginner athletes

Helmet

Giro Aerohead MIPS

This is the second best item I have for cycling. This helmet is currently the number one helmet on the market and I have had zero issues with it. The top selling feature for me on this helmet was the visor. I was interested in buying a new pair of glasses so the visor and the helmet together was a no brainer.

Highly recommend for intermediate athletes

Saddle

ISM PS 1.0 Highly reccomend!!

This seat is like sitting in a luxery lounger at Cinemark! I know all saddles are personal preference to the fit of the owner but this seat is an all star on my junk!

This is a high end seat but well worth it if you plan to do halfs or fulls.

Saddle

Fizik Antares Saddle

I had no idea why my junk was falling asleep until I got a new saddle. I tried a few different saddles in the bike shop until I found one I kinda liked and now my junk doesn't fall asleep nearly as often. Different saddles have different spaces to allow the perineum room and alleviates pressure on that area.

Personal preference

Trainer

Kinetic Road Machine | Smart

This is a great trainer. It is a fluid trainer that provides realistic resistance. The Smart part of the trainer is key when connecting to applications to track your training sessions. An upgraded model has a smart control power unit that this one does not have. The smart control power unit automatically mirrors your resistance on your trainer to what the app is simulating.

Recommended for beginners

Pedals

Shimano SPD SL Pedals

These pedals are made of resin and weight 310 grams for the pair. â€‹They are a bit difficult for me to quickly place my cleats in and out but no issues outside of that.

Not recommend

Shoes

Specialized Sport RBX Shoes

These shoes were purely a cost efficient purchase. These were the cheapest shoes in the store when I bought them. They weigh 380g each. The velcro tops make it difficult to take them on and off quickly during transition.

Not recommended

Aero Bars

Profile Design T1+ Aluminum

These are add on bars to a road bike and I have used them for a half ironman and plenty of training rides and have had no issues. These are fully adjustable on all there axis and can fit any person. I opted for for a basic model for a lower price.

Recommended for beginner triathletes

Repair Kit

XLab Mezzo Repair Bag

This bag is a little bulky but I had to get this bag due to my bracket for my hydration. It fits a spare tube, CO2, and a tire tool with no issues.

Only recommended if you own an XLab Super Wing

Hydration Braket

XLab Super Wing

This is simply a bracket to place on your bike saddle to hold rear hydration brackets. This model is heavy, but I am not a carbon accessory junky or I would just get a full carbon bike.

Not recommended

Water Bottle Holders

XLab Gorrila Cage

These are standard size water bottle holders. I did opt for the carbon holders only because they were the only ones available at the bike shop. They are super light and strong.
